Iditarod 2006
The ceremonial start is on the first Saturday in March. The official start is the next day and is either in Wasilla, or Willow.
The weather was just right - about 25 degrees and partly cloudy. There were 84 teams this year. They start in downtown Anchorage, and a team leaves every 3 minutes. For the ceremonial start, you can bid to be an "Iditarider" - each musher carries a rider in their sled from downtown to the endpoint about 15 miles away.
We watched from the Cordova Street area near Sullivan Arena. We watched the first 40 teams, or so, before we needed to go inside to warm up.
